What is Visual Thinking?
What is this useful for?
I will start saying this is not an art, it is not something new or something that only artists can do.
Have you ever played pictionary? Have you ever needed to do some doodling to explain something or to understand it? I’m sure you have, and for sure, using basic structures, you achieved what you needed: to express something by drawing.
When you were little, I’m sure you drawed a lot without thinking your draws were good or bad, you just expressed yourself. While we grow up, we lose this ability, I guess we are teached only artists can draw or that we are not good enough for it.
However, I’m sure that if I say holidays, pharmacy or mountain, you just thought about images like the following:
This is because for humans, the 75% of our brain is made for images understanding and processing.
So, what do we call Visual Thinking: strategies that use visual elements as a support in: problems resolution, explain complex concepts, making ideas…there is no limit!. It is a visual tool that can empower people, stimulate cooperation and increase innovation.
Maybe you are asking yourself, why is Visual Thinking trendy? What makes it so important in business today?
What happens is that, in recent years, the speed of change in industries has grown tremendously. New technologies mean that companies have to adapt to high volatility in their businesses. Uncertainty is the only certainty that exists and, therefore, traditional forms of work (characterized by a large amount of bureaucracy, written regulations and detailed planning simply) do not work.
Today’s companies need agility, that’s why Agile models like Kanban, Scrum, Lean, Nexus are all trend … they all have in common that they need a high degree of visual techniques to stimulate collaboration. They seek to improve speed, creativity and effectiveness in teams because they are collaborating in a dynamic environment.
Do you dare to use it?
